Vancouver Film Festivals We Love

Here are 3 September film festivals that we recommend:

1) VIFF and Film and TV Forum September 29 – October 14, 2011

Our best approach for this festival: find a list of recommendations or two, and make a short list. Try to surprise yourself as well by popping in to something you hadn’t planned to see just because the time and location work for you.

We would not miss Tatsumi, having really enjoyed A Drifting Life, the gorgeous book from Drawn and Quarterly.

Also look for A Family Portrait in Black and White, Julia Ivanova’s amazing story about biracial children in Eastern Europe. This film has been to Sundance and will be on Knowledge on October 25 and 26 as part of their Storyville series. We are proud to have been able to work on it, and look forward to seeing it at the VIFF!

2) Doxa on the Sunshine Coast September 30 – October 3

We love Doxa! This is definitely one of the best programmed festivals around. $50 for a festival pass in Sechelt, and so many great films to see. We presented Highway Gospel at Doxa in Vancouver in May, and what a fun film it is. Not to be missed.

3) Word on the Street September 23 – 25

Okay, not a film festival, but… we love Word on the Street, a festival which showcases local comics and zines. Come on out and support the print media.
